Ibadan Governor Abiola Ajimobi may begin demolition of structures built on waterways in Ibadan metropolis on Tuesday to prevent another destructive rain that meteorologists predicted would fall in Ibadan and Iseyin before the end of the month.

Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Wasiu  Dauda disclosed this,  weekend while speaking with newsmen in his office.

He explained that the initial ultimatum of seven days was shelved to give  victims of the flood disaster room to find alternative accommodation.

Alhaji Wasiu also stressed that the demolition would be in phases adding that the decision to put the initial ultimatum on hold was informed by the fact that the current governor was a listening person who would not want any hardship for people of the state.

Though, the relief camps had been closed last week, he said the state government may extend it so that the displaced victims could be taken care of.

He clarified that those who knew the normal planning law of leaving at least 500 metres from the river bank but did it intentionally to violate the law would not be given any compensation by the government.

He also used the opportunity to allay the fears of the residents in the state that they should not panic about the news that another destructive rain would still fall in Ibadan and Iseyin.
