If feelers from the Lagos State Government is anything to go by, the state is finally poised to relocate the ever popular Ikeja Computer Village to a new site, Katangowa Internet City, somewhere around Katangowa Market in Agbado, Oke-Odo area of Lagos State (Along the Abeokuta-Lagos expressway).

This proposal has been in the works for a while now but the the die is cast this time around. The Lagos State Commissioner of Science and Technology, Mr Adebiyi Mabadeje dropped this hint a while ago when he opined that the State had budgeted about five hundred million towards the relocation project and that this amount is enshrined in the 2014 budget of the Lagos State government. The Commissioner believes this project will be carried out within the first quarter of 2014.

Mr. Mabadeje is looking at the bigger picture, he foresees this move creating jobs for hundreds of Lagos residents when it kicks off because according to him, "the proposed new market will be a modern standard market that will serve as a one stop shop for the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Industry which will further enhance business in a friendly and enabling environment".

I think this a step in the right direction. A spin off of this, will be that residential apartments hitherto converted into shops in that Ikeja area will be freed up and probably affordable. Some good news to prospective tenants. Recall that the current Computer Village in Ikeja was not ab initio designated for commercial activities. Folks with business acumen should hurry up and snap up strategic spaces, shops around the proposed new site.

We implore the Lagos State government to factor in the traffic implications of locating the proposed Computer Village along that Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. More roundabouts and pedestal bridges will be needed along that axis. Eko oni baje o o!
