Ahead of plans to kick-start construction activities in its pet project, Messrs Propertymart has signed a contract with a building and civil engineering firm, PW Group to provide engineering services to a proposed estate- Propertymart Grenadines Homes within Citiview Estate, located at Arepo, Ogun State.

The contract signing, which was held in Lagos last week covers provision of civil infrastructures will set the pace for that the best habitation by the subscribers. Grenadines Citiview Estate, is about 36 hectares of land, and comes in phases.

Managing Director of Propertymart, Mr. Adesope Adeyinka, said the partnership, which would see PW Group provide civil engineering services in, said the rationale behind the engagement of PW is based on the shared core values, integrity and excellence, between the two companies, which is very important to Propertymart.

“PW has been able to show that it is a company of integrity and believes in excellence. And we know with them, value will be added to the investment of the stakeholders. However our synergy is not constricted to PW Nigeria. To make sure that our product is affordable for all, we have partnership with Resort Savings, to make mortgage available for prospective customers and we are trying to work out something with Guarantee Trust Bank, to make sure that finance does not hold any challenge while in the process of the project.”

Adeyinka said that when they were setting out with the project, it did not promise the public that a company of PW’s caliber would be handling the civil construction of the estate.  “Rather, we said it would be delivered internally as our construction team would handle the civil works. And because of this, I say we are exceeding customer’s expectation.

“Our quest to always give the best to the public and to always make sure that what we do, the whole public enjoys it. It is a quest for excellent and the bid to build an estate that its residents and the developer will be proud of in so many years to come.

He revealed that the first phase of the estate would accommodate about 70 units of house with drainages, roads and all other civil infrastructures to make it worthwhile for living at an international standard.

The Contracts Manager, PW, Mr. Aidan Walsh who signed on behalf of his organisation, also revealed that they came into the project because of the shared values between the two companies.

Also, a director in Propertymart, Egbeyemi Sultan, an architect in his contribution, said that the project when completed would be a benchmark for what an estate should be like.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (LCCI) Mr. Muda Yussuf has said that for Nigeria to adequately tackle the present mass housing shortfall, adoption of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) strategy in the provision of houses for the teaming population by the government needs to be embraced.

Speaking at the formal signing of contract between Propertymart and PW Group, last week, Yussuf said it has become obvious that the government alone cannot tackle the nation’s housing problem, but through the use of Public-Private Partnership, the government had the key to unlock the housing problem.

According to Yussuf, “The concept today is about Private-Public Partnership (PPP). So the concept of PPP in housing delivery, I think it is a good thing and there is an element of that here. Definitely government is not in a position to meet the entire housing needs of the populace. So there is a lot of room for the private sector to come in. And this is also what applies in other sectors, it is happening in the health sector, educational sector, where private initiatives go alongside public initiatives. It is a good development.

“Government should encourage private partnership because it cannot do it alone. Government cannot solve all the housing problems alone, so the concept of PPP is very critical to the delivery of housing to the people.

To him, the partnership between the government and the private sector is important because it will help bridge the housing deficit particularly the low and middle income levels, where there is a serious problem.
